Svartifoss

๐Ÿ“ South Iceland

๐Ÿ“– Description

Svartifoss the "Black Falls" drops 20 metres into a pool surrounded by a perfect horseshoe of dark basalt columns, the geological inspiration for Hallgrรญmskirkja church in Reykjavik. A 1.5 km hike from the visitor centre through birch woodland leads to it. The contrast between the white waterfall and the dark hexagonal columns is one of Iceland's most iconic natural compositions.
