Systrafoss

📍 South Iceland

📖 Description

Systrafoss is a graceful waterfall dropping from a high plateau into the lake Systravatn above the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Named after the nuns of a medieval convent that stood here, the falls have a quiet, almost reverent quality. The short walk up to Systravatn leads through an extraordinary landscape of lava formations and natural rock gardens.
