Kolugljúfur Canyon

📖 Description

Kolugljúfur is a spectacular red-walled canyon carved by the Víðidalsá river, accessible right off the Ring Road and almost completely unknown to tourists. The gorge walls are stained deep ochre and crimson by iron-rich volcanic rock, and a multi-tiered waterfall thunders at its base. A simple fenced viewpoint hangs directly over the canyon edge a vertiginous drop straight into the rushing water below.
