Landmannalaugar is an extraordinary highland landscape of obsidian lava fields, multi-coloured rhyolite mountains in shades of pink, green and purple, and natural hot springs where hikers soak after the Laugavegur trail. The natural hot river emerging from beneath the lava is warm enough to bathe in year-round. Access requires a 4WD through river crossings on the F208 it is worth every kilometre.
