Eldgjá Canyon
📍 South Iceland
📖 Description
Eldgjá "Fire Canyon" is the largest volcanic canyon in the world at 270 km long, formed by a catastrophic 939 AD eruption that was the largest lava eruption in recorded human history. A dramatic cascade, Ófærufoss, plunges into the canyon floor. The F-road approach is long and requires 4WD, but the sheer scale rewards those who make the effort.
