Saxhóll Crater

Saxhóll Crater

📍 West Iceland

📖 Description

Saxhóll is a perfectly formed volcanic crater on the Snæfellsnes peninsula with a staircase of wooden steps to the rim. The 15-minute climb passes through reddish scoria, and the summit gives a 360° view over Snæfellsjökull lava fields and the glacier itself. Snæfellsjökull National Park surrounds it, yet Saxhóll rarely has more than a handful of visitors at any time.
