Snæfellsjökull Glacier

📍 West Iceland

📖 Description

Snæfellsjökull is the glacier capping the 1,446-metre volcano at the tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" volcano. Guided glacier hikes cross the icecap with crampons and ice axes. On clear days the summit offers views across the sea to the Westfjords. The glacier is retreating rapidly and may disappear within decades.
