Þingvellir

📍 South Iceland

📖 Description

Þingvellir National Park is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are visibly pulling apart at 2 cm per year, creating a landscape of dramatic rift valleys and volcanic fissures. It is also where the world's oldest parliament met from 930 AD. Beyond the famous viewpoint, dozens of trails explore the rifts in near-complete solitude. Snorkelling in the glacially clear Silfra fissure is world-class.
